Metropass fakes lead to ID, credit card cache

A TTC probe into 250 counterfeit Metropasses has led Peel Region police to what they say was a highly sophisticated forgery operation that produced thousands of fake credit cards, driver's licences and identity cards. The trail to a Mississauga home where police caught a 23-year-old man printing credit cards began last May when fake TTC Metropasses began showing up in the hands of transit riders in Toronto. Staff Sgt. Mark Russell of the Toronto Transit Commission Special Constables Service said yesterday that, between May and December, they seized 250 fake passes and charged 120 people for using phony cards. Russell contacted Peel police after the probe pointed to a Mississauga home. When the home was raided last month, officers say they found a man forging credit cards with a computer printer.
